Matthew MacLellan

I’m an experienced, full-time indexer. I specialize in scholarly texts in the humanities but also maintain a strong interest in cookbooks and food writing.

I received my indexing training through 1-on-1 instruction with Kari Kells, a former instructor of the USDA Indexing course, as well as through a mentorship with Christine Jacobs, an experienced indexer and chair of the Information and Library Technologies program at John Abbott College.

Some specific areas of concentration/knowledge: contemporary art music of the 21st/20th centuries, old time/folk music (and Appalachian culture more broadly), art history, film/video studies, visual/material culture, critical theory (post-structuralism warmly welcomed), theology (especially with a philosophical or radical orthodoxy bent).

A passionate home cook and collector of cookbooks, I have a wide knowledge of culinary terms, especially from the widely varied cuisines of the Global South. Often found with a cookbook in the kitchen, I understand the concerns of cookbook users. I’m also familiar with literature around preserving/canning/fermenting/homesteading more broadly.

My indexes adhere to high standards of quality, in line with industry best practices.

Pricing is fair and rates align with industry standard rates. I’ve yet to miss a deadline and can work within tight deadlines when necessary.
