I am a back-of-book and embedded indexer. My rates are competitive with industry standards, falling between $3–7 per page for a traditional back-of-book index. My years managing an independent bookstore have given me first-hand experience with the ways that readers engage with texts, both when they are returning to a favourite topic and when they’re engaging with a new fascination.
In addition to my degree in world literature and publishing, I have worn a few different hats in the publishing sphere—editing, book and eBook layout and design, and marketing among them. I studied indexing with Simon Fraser University and participated in the Mary Newberry Mentorship Program, where I was mentored by one of the ISC’s presidents. I read widely, both personally and professionally, though I favour history, popular science, and literary criticism. I have experience indexing cookbooks, literary criticism, history, and Indigenous studies, and work with both academic and trade books.
